Duchess had just had her end of season re-fit and has just passed her 5 year survey with the M.C.A.I am Jeff Clarke I am the Owner/Skipper of Duchess II.I have been running a charter boat for 25+years of off the South West Coast.Starting at West Bay then more recently Weymouth about 10 years ago.Bookings are now being taken for 2010. Bream Fishing

We are now setting our Competion back in progress with the start of the Black Bream season .the first Black Bream caught on Duchess on the 16th May.If anyone aboard Duchess catchs one bigger than this monster 6lb 4ozs will win a free trip of their choice,& this just may be the year for some lucky customer.so come along & have ago.Bream are best caught using a Portland rig with beads & asmall size 1or 1/0 hook with either Baby squid or ragworm tipped with Squid.

We left Weymouth Harbour Set for the Bill for Mackerel which we managed to fill the tray a delight to see the weather was set fair for the day so we carried on down to the West to a Wreck in search of Pollack we managed to bag a cracking 18lb 8oz Pollack caught by Caroline using a 6lb class rod it took 20 mins to land.


Cod Fishing

The Cod have fished well all year,with many being caught on the Reefs some tides we caught up to 50 per trip using a Shad or whole Sqiud tipped with Mackerel,they have also been in their numbers on the Wrecks,there have been many caught well in double figures Like this wonderful 14lber caught Cuttle Fish by David Parry the 28rd July


Reef Bank Fishing

The Reefs are now fishing well with many diffrent fish being caught from Black Bream To the awsume Ray and the wonderfully powerful Conger & Tope which on light gear prove to be the best sports fishing ever,here is Shane Russel of Weston Super mare with his 56lbConger,This was caught on light gear on the Local inshore Reef & was released back after this photo was taken on the 25th July.


Reef Fishing

This time of year on the reefs prove to fish well with Cod Whiting Bass & Ray being caught .The Bass at this time of year are generally caught using live Sandeel on either a flying collar rig or a Portland rig drifting over a ledge or Reef.here is a lovely 15lber Caught by Bob Wilson on Whole Squid .


Kindey Bank Fishing

The Kidney Bank is not for the faint herated amonst you as on the right tides you have to fish with 2lb of weight plus a Double figured Ray on the end of your line needless to say it is well worth the effort,when you catch yourself a cracking fish like ths Blonde Ray of 23lb caught by Tim Wellman on the 11th July,He was using a whole Sqiud tipped with Mackerel on a running ledger rig.


Bank Fishing

The Reefs are fishing well so far this season with Ray, Huss, Starry Smoothounds, Spurdogs & Cod all showing as well as a late appearance of the Bream.Whilst fishing for Ray Joe Ransley of Tonbridge Kent on the 31st May caught this cracking 22lb Starry Smooth Hound and once the picture was taken it was released back into the wild for someone else to catch well done Joe!!! As seen in Boat Fishing Monthly Magazine this month.


Bream Are Back!!!

Whilst fishing to the East of Weymouth, we managed to net a nice catch of Black Bream with many nice sized fish coming in at the similar size of around 4lb the largest of which caught by Roger Bowering seen here at 4lb 6ozs in early July July, This is the best on the day.They are great fun on light gear with a portland rig & squid as bait why not come along & have a try!!


Reef Bank Fishing

The Reefs are fishing well at the moment with Cod Bream Pollack but to name a few plus the humble Ray Huss & Hounds with a large bait on a pennal rig you never know what you might get.The turbot & Brill are also showing on the bank in numbers like this lovely 9lb 5ozs caught by Carl Fuggle on a strip of Mackerel on a running ledger.


The Famous Shambles Bank

The winter is drawing slowly towards Spring and with it the warmer weather (we hope)and the Flat fish the Plaice have started to show on the Shambles Bank here is an early starter Plaice caught by using a cocktail of bunched Ragworm tipped with Squid as bait on a simple single hook trace with beads as an attractor & a 1/0 hook.Perfect!!! We Have also been catching Turbot & Brill on 3/0 hooks baited with either mackerel strip or a side of sand eel like this lovely 19lber caught by The crew on Duchess this was just one of many fish caught on the day.
